In 1927, the workers of Amiantos successfully reduced their daily labour hours from ten to nine hours. A larger strike occurred in Amiantos in 1929, with the participation of 5,000 to 6,000 workers, who held a demonstration at the company’s offices, demanding a wage increase and the freedom to purchase bread from wherever they wished, as opposed to the company’s ovens, from which it was sold at a high price.
